History

Our Story starts way back in 1978, when Pastor Jeong Myung Seok started preaching the gospel independently in Seoul, South Korea

We are the Christian Gospel Mission (CGM) , also known as ”Providence” or ”Jesus morning star (JMS)” established officially in 1982, by Pastor Jeong Myung Seok. CGM has now spread to over 70 countries including Australia which begun from a few families that touched down in Sydney from South Korea in 1998. Since then it has grown to just over 300 members all around Australia.

The name Providence captures the core of the movement which is to establish God’s will proclaimed through the gospel on the earth.  CGMs mission is to inspire people to live a life of loving God & connect them to God’s everlasting love through knowing Jesus Christ intimately. This happens through understanding the principles of the Bible deeply and putting them into practice in daily life. More than simply going to heaven after death, we believe we must create heaven on earth while we are still alive by living with God on the earth just as we would later in heaven.

Essential for Leadership at CGM

We are a Christ centred & word focused church thus All CGM Leaders are required to share the following fundamental core tenants of Christianity.

  • That Jesus Christ is the Son of God who all must put their faith in to inherit salvation (John 14:6)
  • Jesus was put to death in the body but resurrected in Spirit. The physical body cannot go to heaven (1 Cor 15:50 | 1 Pet 3:18)
  • Jesus Christ returns in Spirit and works through the appropriate person of the time period just as Elijah did in the 1st Advent of Christ (Luke 1:17)

Core Beliefs

“ We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God through whom God’s Spirit came to the earth for the salvation of mankind. We believe He was put to death in the body and resurrected in spirit such that those who repent and put their faith in him as their Lord and Saviour will be forgiven of their sins and their spirit will receive the gift of eternal life in heaven.”​

 

Our mission is guided by the following biblical principles.

  • The Divine Trinity is God, The Holy Spirit and The Holy Son who are eternal, omniscient and omnipotent.
  • The Bible is the foundation for salvation and the fulfilment of God’s will.
  • Jesus is the Christ and the body upon which The Holy Son came. Salvation is fulfilled through believing in and acting on the words of Christ.
  • Faith is about action. When the body hears the words of Christ, believes and takes action, the spirit resurrects and is transformed into a spirit of Heaven.
  • The love between God and mankind is spiritual not physical sexual love which is biblically permitted only between a married man and woman.
  • Spiritual love means to always think of God, seek Him and put His words to action.
