Code of Conduct

Christian Gospel Mission Australia is a place that fosters, a safe, welcoming inclusive environment of fellowship within Christ. This Code of Conduct sets the standards for behaviour for all members, visitors, volunteers, and staff including all leadership. It stands for our commitment to Trinity – God, Holy Spirit and Holy Son to conduct ourselves with integrity to uphold the highest ethical standards.

Whether we are leaders, members, visitors or volunteers, we are all part of the body of Christ, and so we must all behave with integrity, honesty, lawfulness and righteousness towards each other, bringing glory and honour to the Trinity. This applies especially to leaders such as Pastors, Pre-pastors, Elders, Deacons and group leaders of our churches, for it is a sacred task to be called to serve in leadership within the church. (Romans 12:3-5)

This Code of Conduct for CGM Australia sets out the key values and principles of our churches, which are based on establishing trust, and belief that every person will be treated as someone of great value in God’s eyes, with fairness, respect and dignity. We value the social, relational and interpersonal safety and well-being of all our congregational members. We value the role of leaders and mentors and the importance of transparent and accountable relationships to promote trust and confidence in our churches and their programs.

Christian Gospel Mission Australia as a community is committed to the following:

1. Safety

We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where abuse, bullying, and harassment have no place. We pledge to foster a community where every member feels secure, included, and free from intimidation or belittlement. Unwelcome conduct, offensive gestures or language, unjustified or unnecessary comments about a person’s attributes are not tolerated.

2. Respect

Our interpersonal interactions are guided by Christly love, integrity, truthfulness, and respect. We treat each other fairly and with the utmost dignity, irrespective of circumstances. In instances where grievances occur and resolutions seem elusive, we will seek additional assistance and make every effort to pursue reconciliation following Biblical principles when conflict or division occurs.

3. Purity

We commit to conduct ourselves at all times in a manner that honours God and His church and in accordance with Biblical principles. Each one of us commits to maintaining sexual purity, recognizing that God’s gift of sexuality is to be exercised strictly within marital bounds as Christ defined (Matthew 19:4-6).

We refrain from using any illicit substances as well as any alcohol aligning with our commitment to health, well-being, and a clean lifestyle that honours God and our bodies as His temple.

4. Personal Integrity

We are dedicated to making ethical and informed decisions in all matters, including those of a financial nature. We pledge to act with scrupulous honesty and to publicly account for all monies we handle on behalf of others. We are committed to communicate with integrity, including being truthful and honest in our communication with each other.

5. Communication

When we face situations where we lack the required skills or knowledge, we humbly acknowledge this and seek help from others who possess the necessary expertise. This approach fosters growth and continuous learning within our community.

6. Confidentiality

We respect the confidentiality of personal information within the constraints of the law. Furthermore, we commit to report any instances of misconduct that are not aligned with this code, contributing to the overall wellbeing and integrity of our community.

7. Accountability

Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct can result in actions ranging from verbal warning to removal from church activities or membership, depending on the severity of the violation. We also commit to report any instances of misconduct that are not aligned with this code, contributing to the overall wellbeing and integrity of our community

We hope this Code of Conduct fosters a positive, respectful, and safe environment that allows our community to grow in faith and love. It is our collective responsibility to uphold these values and ensure our church remains a place of comfort, support, and spiritual nourishment.
